Musicscan: give our readers a short briefing about Hopesfall, please. what are you guys doing right at the moment?

Hopesfall: Hopesfall is a five piece rock and roll juggernaut from Charlotte, North Carolina. Right now we're just practicing and trying to get everything tight before the European tour.

Musicscan: how much attention do you put on Europe in general? it took quite a long time before you come over here to tour in support of your last record. Or did I miss a tour?

Hopesfall: We always wanted to tour Europe on the last record; we just never got the opportunity really. We did like 3 weeks in the UK last June, but we never got to mainland. We're all real excited to finally come over.

Musicscan: what are your expectations for this tour with Scarlet that's about to start?

Hopesfall: Honestly, we have no idea what to expect. We're just excited that we have the chance. Unfortunately, Scarlet isn’t coming over anymore. They had some complications and had to drop off, but we'll still be there and we'll play extra hard to make up for their absence.

Musicscan: has it been your choice to tour especially with Scarlet? what do you like about this band and the style they are playing? Did you already tour with them in the states?

Hopesfall: Scarlet are actually really good friends of ours. We've done a few shows with them here and there, and we always hang out whenever we can, its a shame they won't be coming over, they definitely put on a great live show and are an amazing group of guys.

Musicscan: what bores you about today’s hardcore-scene/-bands and how do you try to not being boring?

Hopesfall: what I like about Hopesfall is that I can hear a lot of passion behind the music and this is something I personally often miss...People always have different tastes as to what is good and what is boring, we just write what we want to hear and what personally excites us. We make a huge effort to bring something unique and powerful to each song which sometimes will take, what seems like forever, to get right. We put time and heart into our writing and maybe that's the passion you're hearing.

Musicscan: what makes Hopesfall stand out, what are your trademarks? would you agree to call Hopesfall a new school band in the vein of shai hulud, poison the well,..?

Hopesfall: I wouldn't know where to categorize us, we have a little of everything I guess. We just focus on writing interesting music and putting on a good show.

Musicscan: if you would summarize the message and atmosphere of Hopesfall's music in one sentence. what would it be?

Hopesfall: If you like Celine Dion, you probably won't like us.

Musicscan: you surely want to cause feelings and reactions within your listeners, right? what kind of?

Hopesfall: We just want the kids to have a good time, shake their asses a little, and leave feeling like their money was well spent.

Musicscan: what's your motivation to play this highly intense kind of hardcore music?

Hopesfall: We all draw form a variety of influences and that’s what came out, it’s not like we consciously said lets write intense hardcore. You just write what comes natural to you.

Musicscan: how does a Hopesfall-song come into life? is it always the same procedure or how can this be explained?

Hopesfall: We just take riffs we like and try to put them together. It’s basically the five of us sitting in a room for hours, staring at each other saying, "What if we played this here?" "No that sucks, it doesn't flow" "What bar do you want to go to tonight?"

Musicscan: what's the thing about Hopesfall you feel especially proud of? And what are the goals you are heading for with the band?

Hopesfall: We just want to be happy with what we are doing and if people like it and can identify, sweet.

Musicscan: What lessons have you learned from being involved with punk/hardcore? What has it done for you?

Hopesfall: I've learned you have to work for what you want, you have to put in your time if you want to be successful and driving a van with a trailer in Canada from Oct-Mar can kill you.

Musicscan: Well, at the moment there’s hype in the hardcore/punk rock-genre and certain styles are becoming very popular. What do you think about that hype? Will this be helpful for a band like Hopesfall? Or perhaps the opposite effect?

Hopesfall: We don't really pay much attention to hardcore or what the flavor of the month is, a good band is a good band, trends come and go. The bands that are truly writing good music, and not fitting a mold, will stick around.

Musicscan: Are there any principles you would never give up to as a band? What kind of?

Hopesfall: No McDonald’s commercials

Musicscan: your biggest wish to happen for Hopefall's future?

Hopesfall: We continue to do what we love, happy and healthy

Musicscan: something you'd like to add?

Hopesfall: Our new record called "A-Types" is coming out later this fall. We're all real proud of it and it sounds amazing. Be sure to keep an eye out for it.
