A Perfect Murder

Musicscan: give our readers a short briefing about A Perfect Murder, please. what are you guys doing right at the moment?

A Perfect Murder: A Perfect Murder is playing Heavy Metal music. The band started 4 years ago but is in full effect since december 2001. We’re playing hellfest and then we are going to do 5 cd release dates in Quebec and then going out 2 months with Love is red and Donnybrook.

Musicscan: this whole hardcore-/punk-thing seems to be turning more and more mainstream for some parts and getting more professional. what do you think about this development?

A Perfect Murder: In a way, I think it’s allright. I mean, If kids start listening to punk or hardcore music and they like it, what can you do you know? More and more people are starting to get along with hard music. Some of ‘em are fakes but some of them are straight to the heart with it. I think it’s pretty good.

Musicscan: what do you think of the fact that the only really extreme thing to come out of the underground scene nowadays is the music? there seems only small room for critical ideas or important statements nowadays...

A Perfect Murder: There’s probably less people involve on that side you know. I Think it’s good thing to get people involve in politic, Against religion or whatever you can talk shit about. You just need to be really sure what you are talking about.

Musicscan: what bores you about todays hardcore-scene/-bands? i often think there's a big lack of originality and passion as well, cause too many bands only try to copy the popular onces besides trying to do an own thing...

A Perfect Murder: It depends what you like to hear you know. But i understand what you mean. It will always depend on what is the trend you know. That’s pissing me off. When Poison the well were at their top, Every new bands sounded like ‘em. After you got Terror. The old school trend came along with it. It is still present but i think bands that doing old school, are more sincere. And then, You have Killswitch Engage. Every fucking bands wanna sound like them. You know. Bride, singing chorus, E mosh. Whatever i dont give a fuck. We are playing what we like and that’s all about.

Musicscan: i guess you always tried to challenge yourself, and your listeners as well of course, while writing new songs. what was your main focus creating new songs onto?

A Perfect Murder: Get more metal. More thrashy man. And of course, More Crowbar hahaha. We tried a lot of different things on UNBROKEN. It ends up to be really more faster than we expected. And we REALLY like it.

Musicscan: do you have something like some kind of unique vision in mind when you start working on new material?

A Perfect Murder: I’d say yes. You know, You barely can’t come up with something new. The only thing you can do is writting riff that may sound familiar but you need diversity in it. Transitions. That is the most important thing. If you have to awesome riffs but you can”t fit both together. That will sound wack. We always have ideas when starting a jam.

Musicscan: if you would summarise the message and atmosphere of A Perfect Murders music in one sentence. what would it be?

A Perfect Murder: Get it loud and Get ready to die!!! Hahaha.

Musicscan: how can you explain me what is typical for the sound of A Perfect Murder? what sets you apart? i mean there are tons of heavier, metal influenced hardcore-bands around these days.

A Perfect Murder: Ok. There’s not that many bands that take their influences from old bands such as TESTAMENT,METALLICA,EXODUS,SLAYER,MEGADETH,PANTERA,CROWBAR you know. We fucking eat that shit man. 80’s thrash metal era man. I think we Take the energy of hardcore and put the heavy side of Metal. Cuz you know, Those bands got the best song structure ever. That’s fucking important.

Musicscan: i personally like your heavy style between cro-mags and hatebreed a lot, cause this is something i can not hear every day from tons of bands. how did it happen that you are around playing this kind of hardcore?

A Perfect Murder: It just sound the way it is man. I dont know. We are playing what we like and it may sounds the way you wanna hear it man. Hahah.

Musicscan: what do you think is the most important thing beginning bands should aim for when they start playing? what were you heading for when you once started and how did this goals change within bands developtment?

A Perfect Murder: First of all, and this should be for your entire life, Make it to have fun. Cuz if you dont have any fun, that will be boring for a fucking long time man haha.

Musicscan: are there any principles you would never give up to as a band?

A Perfect Murder: Perseverance. And Respect of others. I do have a lot of respect for the oldies you know. I would be so fucking breathtaking if i would talk of play with Megadeth and dave mustaine or Kerry king and slayer you know. They are the reason why Heavy metal music is still alive and where it comes from.

Musicscan: how can you characterize A Perfect Murders position in todays heavy music scene?

A Perfect Murder: Like i said earlier, We are playing Heavy metal music. I dont think we sound METAL-CORE. I kinda hate that expression.

Musicscan: how did you get in contact with victory and what is working with them like? for the past few months they put out several heavy hardcore bands. do you feel well supported?

A Perfect Murder: Of course i do. They are pushing a lot for us. Everyone there is doing a great job. Everything is fast you know. and we like it this way.

Musicscan: could you imagine another way to get rid of your frustration and aggression besides playing such intense and aggressive music?

A Perfect Murder: Making love man. Hahaha. I dont know seriously. This is all i have besides of like my friends familly you know. When i’m at home i just write riff dude. Tons of em. That’s how i get rid of my frustration.

Musicscan: what kind of feeling is it to play your songs in front of a crowd? ...and what kind of mix you see as your crowd while playing live?

A Perfect Murder: It’s great man. I think it is the same for every bands. Seeing people singning along and killing each other while you play is fucking amazing. It is just awesome man.

Musicscan: your band name is kind of negative sounding, so are some of your lyrics. why did you choose to go this directon?

A Perfect Murder: Life is awesome but it is fucking hard and retarded too haha. I think there will always be more negative situations than positive ones.

Musicscan: do you take life as an everyday struggle?

A Perfect Murder: Of course. Who knows what will happen the next day???
