Blood Duster

I Wanna Do It With A Donna' - 'Drink Figh Fuck' usw.

Musicscan: give our readers a short briefing about BLOOD DUSTER, please. is there something that we have to know about your band?

Blood Duster: wel we are fucked up, thats about all anyone needs to know i guess. we play grind and we play rock sometimes in the same song, often we operate as two separate bands, like a split personality, but both personas are fucked up.

Musicscan: what's your self-understanding of BLOOD DUSTER? what does your band stands for? what are goals you are reaching for?

Blood Duster: we just do what we do, we try not to conform to any kind of sound yet we are always striving to create something that sounds like us, if that makes any sense at all to you.

Musicscan: it looks like you are very experienced with tough situations. like "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." am i right?

Blood Duster: yeah sure, weve had some shit go on, but its all good and builds character. life would be pretty fucking boring if there wasnt fucked up things to get over and deal with.

Musicscan: your band name is kind of negative sounding. what was your intention by choosing the name BLOOD DUSTER?

Blood Duster: we just liked the sound of iut, it sounded different than all the typical detah metal band names at the time like we would hate it now if we had a name with "angel" at the end of it.

Musicscan: are there any messages that you guys are trying to get out into the scenes? you are known for being porn-grinders and i know about your provokative, but also sometimes cynical, lyrics. is there something like an overall message?

Blood Duster: yeah our message is dont be a narrow minded fuckwit, especially about music. alot of people get into one scene and then become like a fucking nazi and if you dont conform to the strict rules then you are somehow less true or something like that, we say fuck that shit,do your own thing try and sound like yourselves and fuck everyone else. people hate us for not conforming but the simple fact is that we couldnt care less if people like us or not, do it because you like it.

Musicscan: are the lyrics equally important to the music? i mean, you are known for them, so i guess they are important for most of the listeners, but what is your view?

Blood Duster: i think the music is more important, i mean if the song is shit then the lyics are just lyrics in a shit song, do you know what i mean. i prefer to have a good crusty base then you add the cheese and other toppings.

Musicscan: how did it happen that you have those famous guest singers on the record this time?

Blood Duster: we like to mix shit up a little, it was cool having dave evans (ac/dc's first singer) as he was really down to earth and didnt give a fuck about pretentious bullshit, he just came in sang and had a good time. i like having guests and i think it is something we will continue to do as often as we can, rap bands do it all the time so why cant we?

Musicscan: who influenced you when you were coming up? ...and are there any bands right now that you are interested in?

Blood Duster: i like "birdflesh", i just bought night of the ultimate mosh and have been flogging that of late and i lie an band called "ghoul" on razorback records, when i was growing up it was all kiss and slayer, then came carcass, napalm death, sore throat sort of the english grind sound. now i listen to so much stuff its retarded, im into surf rock stuff from the late 60s and shit like that alot.

Musicscan: what's your motivation to play espacially this heavy kind of music? i think it's a very unique mixture of grind and death rock.

Blood Duster: the motivation is to write good songs and have some fucking fun with all of this. i mean we get to go on tour, see naked girls, get drunk, party and shit like that all the time so its just a good healthy fun thing to do with your life i think. its better than working in a bank.

Musicscan: if you would summerise the message and atmosphere of BLOOD DUSTER's music in one sentence. what would it be?

Blood Duster: have fun and dont give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

Musicscan: can you take one typical song and explain what you hope people are getting out of it, please.

Blood Duster: o.k. the song vegan feast, its a grind song from the new album. this was writen by me (a meat eater) and our guitarist belt thrower (vegan straightedge) we wrote the song together expressing both points of veiw witch are totally differnt but without the need for name calling and bitterness, its like we just had a conversation that was civil and hopefully people can make up there own minds with what they want to take away from in terms of what they think is right and wrong, that is sort of what we try and do in songs, express an opinion or an idea or something silly in a non-nazi kind of way. i hope people get that yo can have an opossing opinion without being a complete dickhead.

Musicscan: what is the song you guys feel especially proud of (whether compositionally, lyrically,...)?

Blood Duster: i personally like the song sixsixsixteen and drink fight fuck. i think they are pretty well writen and easy to hear over and over, some other stuff gets boring pretty quick, i think because these are pretty solid in structure and have substantial choruses. i like to write a song that im proud of.

Musicscan: i was surprised by the fact that your new record is released by season of mist. how did it happen?

Blood Duster: it just sorta happend that way, they seem pretty cool with us.

Musicscan: what do you think is the most positive thing in the current grind/punk/crust/hc-scene, as well as the worst?

Blood Duster: the most positive thing is that is has made a difference in the opinions about sexuality and has brought to the attention of grinders everywhere some politcal things that you may not have heard about. the negative thing is that some bands have taken things from earlier grind bands and are trying to force th issue for no reason other than they are copying the older and think that is what you have to do to get noticed. i dont mind someone having a really strong opinion and shit but if you come at me and start trying to force feed me shit, im going to switch off. i think alot of younger dudes in bands need to learn to actually talk to people and learn why people are a certain way before grabbing a mcrophone and being a cliche that no one takes seriously.

Musicscan: you surely read press reviews for your releases. what are comments you can not feel familiar with? maybe some comparisms or something like this...

Blood Duster: i dont quite know where you are going with this question? if you mean do i like the reveiws of our albums id say, they seem o.k. im not really too fussed about reveiws as i never read them before i bought an album, so i dont think it matters that much. but i do hate reveiws when it appears that people havent even bothered to listen to the album. ive noticed a lot of reveiwers are so lazy they just quote what you call your "style" on the biography, throw in a few song titles and a comparasin to someone you said you were influenced by in bio, if you lucky they will listen to the first song and mention something about the sound. but generally they dont even do that.

Musicscan: what kind of feeling is it to play your songs in front of a crowd? do you hope for interaction with the crowd?

Blood Duster: we love crowd interaction, we love to get the audience involved with us, its good. we are the same as our crowd anyway so why act all like "oh im in band". we party with everyone, get drunk with people and generally avoid hangig around backstage like tossers.

Musicscan: is there something you want the people to leave your shows with?

Blood Duster: a sense of a good time, thats all you can really hope for.

Musicscan: what was the weirdest thing a fan has ever done during a live gig you played?

Blood Duster: weve had heaps of people get naked on stage and dance around, thats cool we enjoy all kinds of nudity, im partial to getting naked myself if the mood takes me, but the weirdest thng a guy did was get naked and try and have a shit on the stage, that was pretty fucked up. im all for self expression but not self expulsion, not on our stage. we kicked him off the stage pretty quick.

Musicscan: something you would like to mention at the end? just do it.

Blood Duster: thanks for the interveiw, hope everyone got something out of it, if you didnt thats cool too. hope you all like the new album the next is gonna be a total headfucking experience!!
