Broken Promises

Frechheit."
Music-Scan: Can YOU tell us how and when BROKEN PROMISES started and what the motivation behind it was. Do YOU consider yourself to be a straight edge band?
Imran: Broken Promises is FAR from being a sXe band. Cédric, David and I are straightedge, but we don't preach it. There are more important things in life than focusing on something that everyone should choose for themselves. Straightedge has become boring as fuck. No-one cares anymore (almost no-one) because it's not what it should be. It should be a revolution, it should be alive, it should lead to something more productive than a 'healthy' mind. Straightedge played a big role in my life, and it continues to do so, but only because of the way that I interpret it. It's not about being drug-free, its not about your health, its not about saving the earth, it's about saying FUUUUUUCK YOOOOOUUUUUUU to society and society's products (that we don't need, but I'll shut up now, since the others in the band arent sXe and don't share the

same beliefs as me concerning this subject. OH, and I'd like to THANK them for not sharing these beliefs with me !!! It would be so boring if we all thought or acted the same way) !!!!!!!
Cédric: No we aren't all straightedge; it's been some time that Goodlife no longer signs only straightedge bands and that's a good thing ! Anyway, there shouldn't be any place for such narrowmindedness in the hardcore scene.
MS: Sum up bands history in short words, please. What has been the past of YOU guys in the hc-scene so far?
I: I used to sing for BLINDED BY TRUTH (I was with them for about 3 years). I do a zine called BLACK ORCHID, and a website called The Universal Groups Directory - http://hcdirect.cjb.net . But who cares about the HC scene? We can't stay closed in this 'scene' for our whole life. I want people to see all the beauty that lies in the outside world - in REAL life !!!! Forget the scene, take a step back and expand your horizons. This is why HC has become so boring now. Nobody wants to try anything new because they're afraid no-one will like it, or it'll be 'out of trend'. Fuck that.
C: Aside from going to gigs, I joined (with Imran) a concert organisation set up by pals of mine called 'fulfil the underground conspiracy'.
MS: Would YOU agree to call your music aggressive?
I: Yes, of course. But it depends at how you look at it. Someone who listens to BRITNEY SPEARS will say that it's definitely aggressive. Whereas someone who listens to extreme death metal will say that it's 'hard' , but maybe not aggressive.
MS: How do YOU describe bands music? Metalcore is definately the wrong word, because it's much more...
I: I don't really want to describe the band's music, because that will (again) lead us to defining (our) music, and to have to put a limit on it. It will dampen our creativity, as well as our expression, and once again we'll fall into the trap of stagnation where nothing new will come out of anything ! So ... we don't play metalcore, and we don't play chaotic hardcore. We don't play emo, and we don't play beatdown. We don't play old school and you can forget about poprock. We play music.
C: We don't play metal...but saying there's metal in our music would be more true.
MS: Of Cause You get the chance to say whatever YOU want to say...
I: One day there was a 9 year old child. He was a very active child and did lots of sports. He had lots of friends and was the friendliest child ever! However, one day when he was playing football with his friends, the ball was kicked out of the park, and he ran to get it. The child ran onto the road, and was hit by a speeding car. He died, at the age of 9, without having fulfilled any of his expectations, without having fully lived out his dreams, without ever truly falling in love/making love. He died without ever questioning his existence. He died without feeling the urge to break down and cry uncontrollably. He died ... And all because of a business man who was late for a meeting. Have you lived out YOUR dreams? Is THIS what you want in YOUR life? I certainly hope so, because YOU still have a CHOICE. The child didn't. - Imran
C: 10 days ago, a multimillionaire showed a judge a FALSE document presenting his 2 girls' mother as an insane person...he was legally given the authorization to keep them by an UNILATERAL decision. At the airport, he presented his daughters' OUT OF USE passport...they weren't even checked... He LEGALLY KIDNAPPED 2 girls, and everybody followed just because of his charisma and wealth...how can one still believe in the system hmm? I can assure you that my mother is totally sane, contrarily to this mad business man...what can you expect of a system where some persons are legally backed up to destroy others? Just to show you that this world is only about image and the power of wealth - Ced.
