Nine

Musicscan: give our readers a short briefing about nine, please. what are you guys doing right at the moment?

Nine: Well, right now we're waiting for the album, KILLING ANGELS to be released the 15th of september so we can hit the road again. We're doing a couple of one-off gigs because we can't wait though...

Musicscan: what keeps your group alive? i mean nine does not seem to be a fulltime band (or am i wrong?). what's your motivation to be together as this punk/rock/hc-outfit from time to time?

Nine: It's easy. We love to play music. We love to tour. If we could we would do this all the time. But it's hard to do more than 2 european tours on a record. But hopefully we'll tour the states aswell.

Musicscan: what are the bands/projects your members are involved in besides nine? are there some?

Nine: Johan (vocals) has a band called "I ren desperation" It's a crustband. He also sing in a band called INSULA. It's "terror-metal" haha. Really low-mood shit. Our bassplayer has a HC-band called Between us.

Musicscan: what are the messages that you guys are trying to get out into the scenes?

Nine: I mean, the only message we have is to have fun and be yourself. The scenes, like the metalscene or the hardcorescene or punkscene or whatever always seem to get stereotyped. That's kinda boring. Have fun!

Musicscan: where do you see nine in the grand scheme of heavy music? you don't fit nicely into hardcore, punk, rock, metal...

Nine: Well, that's because we like to do heavy music. Not metal. Not HC. Not rock. We do what we like to. And maybe it's hard to place us into a genre but, hey, we see that as something positive.

Musicscan: what is your opinion to the fact that underground music runs more and more into the commercial? of course it offers chances but alos have negative aspects...

Nine: Yeah, as you say, it offers chances for some bands, but it also means that we have boy/girlbands in the underground scene... Bands that big companies has put together. I'm kinda allergic to that shit.

Musicscan: what do you think is the most positive thing in the current hc/punk-scene, as well as the worst?

Nine: I have always seen the punk/hc scene as something positive. But as all scenes it has its darker sides. Like people who have much influenses on other telling them what's right or wrong, what's cool - what's not... And so on. The punkmessage for me is to use your own head. And that kinda failes when there's punk/hc idols telling people what to do.

Musicscan: what do you think about political correctness? it's an important issue in hc/punk here in germany. same for sweden?

Nine: Yeah it is. And that's a good thing as long as you have some distance to it and it doesn't become a fundamental religion.

Musicscan: any political activities besides the band? do you think that political awareness is important? which?

Nine: We try not be a political band because as I said before, I don't like people telling others what's right or wrong. Me as a person think it's really important to be politically aware. But I'm not very active though. But everybody do as much as they can.

Musicscan: you are very rock influenced. is this something you think is coming within als types of guitar music (metal, hc,...)?

Nine: I don't know actually... We like rock, metal, hc... But it's nice if band don't play stereotyped music...

Musicscan: what do you think about this scandinavian rock boom of the last couple of years? this boom seems to have an impact on many bands...

Nine: Well, since we live in scandinavia we don't see the boom as much as you guys do, but I think that there's a lot of good bands from scandinavia that are really good... In all type of genres... Like Turbonegro, Entombed and so on... Maybe scandinavians are so bored, we got nothing to do exept play music... Haha.

Musicscan: if you would summerise the message and atmosphere of nine's music in one sentence. what would it be?

Nine: Dark Party Metal Rock. Nah, i don't know. Tricky question... Next one...

Musicscan: you surely read press reviews for your releases. what are comments you can not feel familiar with? maybe some comparisms or something like this...

Nine: The music have different impact on different people. People write what they want. And they should. But so far I haven't read anything about us that makes me wanna puke.

Musicscan: you surely want to cause feelings and reactions within your listeners? what kind of?

Nine: Buy a rope... Haha. Nah, we mostly write what we feel and so on... and it's fun to hear people interperet our lyrics and reactions of the music. But of course, it's not so much PMA in the music...

Musicscan: can you take one typical nine-song and explain what you hope people are getting out of it.

Nine: Take the song EUTHANASIA for example... That's a typical NINE song. I actually don't know what I hope people to get out of it... I wrote the lyrics when I was really pissed off and bitter... And maybe someone can relate to it, or maybe not.

Musicscan: what are the feelings you get out of your new record?

Nine: We're really happy about the album. But it's a dark and misanthropic record.

Musicscan: what kind of people are into your band? have you ever thought about it? where do you see your potential listeners? i think it's not that typical hardcore-kid...

Nine: It's funny actually and we're really happy that all types of underground people listen to us... We do as much metalmagazines as hardcore/punkmagazines. And also on our shows there's all kind of people that are into underground music.

Musicscan: for how long do you think that you can tour on the new record? i think you didn't tour that much on the last one...

Nine: we did 2 european and 2 scandinavian on the last one... Unfortunatly nowhere else. But if we had done that it would been enough...? Or maybe not... I wanna be on the road.
