Musicscan: Do you still remember when you wrote your first song for/with Length Of Time and what it felt like and how it feels like now when you finish a song? How has your relationship to the music and the band changed until today?
Length Of Time: I REMEMBER EXACTLY WHEN I STARTED THE BAND WITH CHRIS ON THE DRUMS, WE JUST KNEW WE WANTED TO START A NEW PROJECT BESIDE OUR MUTUAL BANDS IN 1997. AT THAT TIME I KNEW MORE ABOUT THE ARTWORK AND TEXTS FOR THE PROJECT THAN THE MUSIC . FIRST SONG WE HAVE WRITTEN IS "WE CHOOSE THE VIOLENT WAY". DURING THESE FIRST REHEARSALS IVES "ROSS" JOIN US TO PLAY BASS BUT ENDED AS THE SINGER OF THE BAND. WE STILL COMPOSED SONGS AS WE DID IN THE BEGINNING BUT MAYBE WITH MORE MATURITY.
Musicscan: Aggressive music in general and core-related styles in specific are often told to be somehow youth orientated. So how do you make sure to stay young with what you are doing? And what fuels your anger?
Length Of Time: THE ANGER IS SOMETHING YOU LIVE WITH IN EVERYDAY LIFE SOMETIMES IT COMES OUT SOMETIMES IT´S STAY INSIDE YOURSELF. AGGRESSIVE MUSIC IS JUST A WAY OF EXPRESSION BUT YOU CAN EXPRESS YOUR ANGER IN A VERY QUIET SONG TOO.
Musicscan: When Length Of Time came up the scene was quite different. Belgian bands set the early standards for the European metalcore and everyone was listening to Congress, Liar and – of course – LOT. A lot changed since that time. How did you experience and follow the surge and commercial success of the subsequent metalcore-movement? LOT never was about appealing to the masses…
Length Of Time: THE MOST INPORTANT THING FOR ME IS THAT L.O.T. IS STILL ACTIVE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS WITHOUT FOLLOWING ANY TRENDS. WE HAVE A DIE HARD FAN BASE SINCE 1997 WHO´S STILL PRESENT AND THAT´S THE MOST IMPORTANT.
Musicscan: What lessons have you learned from being involved with the extreme underground for so many years now? What has it done for you?
Length Of Time: KEEPING ME ALIVE AND GIVING ME A GOAL IN LIFE SINCE I WAS A KID.
Musicscan: The style LOT plays finds separation through aggression, passion and honesty, and words like brutal, tough or dangerous have to be used to describe what you are doing. Is this what you're going for?
Length Of Time: I DON´T PREACH FOR ANY KIND OF VIOLENCE BUT I CREATE MY OWN WORLD AS MANY ARE DOING IT.
Musicscan: I feel your taste in music has become wider over time, and that the album has more structure to it. Were there any musical elements you meant to incorporate in your music for Let The World With The Sun Go Down by choice?
Length Of Time: I AM LISTENING TO MANY DIFFERENT TYPE OF MUSIC (FROM CLASSIC METAL TO 70´s HARDROCK TO NEOFOLK TO DOOM BACK METAL...) AND I ADMIT THAT WE TURN THE NEW LOT COMPOSITIONS INTO THE HEAVY/THRASH METAL WAY...WE WENT BACK TO OUR ROOTS AS KIDS SLAYER, DARK ANGEL, CELTIC FROST, KREATOR...
Musicscan: What stands out in your mind about the chemistry of the writing and recording of Let The World With The Sun Go Down? How did this contribute to the overall sound and feel of the album?
Length Of Time: MOST OF THE TIME I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE END RESULT OF AN ALBUM BECAUSE THERE WAS ALWAYS SOMETHING MISSING IN THE SOUNDS, MIX, SONGS OR SOMETHING WRONG IN THE ARTWORK, SOMETHING THAT WAS IN MY MIND AT THE TIME OF THE RECORDINGS BUT THAT NEVER COMES IN THE END RESULT. WITH “LET THE WORLD WITH THE SUN GO DOWN” I HAVE FINALLY THE RESULT I WAS LOOKING FOR MAYBE BECAUSE IT TOOK US 10 YEARS TO BRING OUT NEW SONGS AAAAHHHHH....NO SERIOUSS WE WORKED ON A LONG PERIOD ON THE SONGS AND DURING THE RECORDINGS WE BRINGS SOME MORE CHANGES IN THE COMPOSITIONS. IN THE PAST WE WERE ALWAYS LIMITED IN OF STUDIO RECORDINGS DAYS AND NOW BECAUSE JEREMIE OWNER OF BLACKOUT STUDIO AND BASSIST OF THE BAND DURING A PERIOD WE WERE MORE CONFORTABLE IN THE PROCESS OF RECORDINGS AND THAT MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
Musicscan: Is there something like a guiding line listeners have to know about to get a better understanding of what you are trying to tell them with the new record?
Length Of Time: THE SPIRIT OF L.O.T. SOUNDS IS THERE AND THE FANS WILL FEEL IT AFTER THE FIRST LISTENING I THINK.
Musicscan: After all the years and songs: Are there still things left to say and worth singing of? How do you find the topics for your songs?
Length Of Time: STILL I HAVE THINGS TO SAY STILL I BELIEVE IN THE WORDS I WRITTEN IN THE PAST AND STILL THESE WORDS ARE VERY OF ACTUALITY AND LOOK TO ALL THESE BANDS COMING OUT NOW USING THE PROCESS AS BACKGROUND PHILOSOPHY FOR THEIR MUSIC...THE WORLD IS STILL BURNING...FOREVER
Musicscan: What type of success did you hope to gain with this new record?
Length Of Time: I HOPE JUST THAT OUR FANS WILL BE SATISFY WITH OUR NEW E.P. AND THAT WE WILL PLAY SOME SHOWS TO INTRODUCE THE 2013 LENGTH OF TIME LIVE VERSION WITH ROSS ON VOCALS AND PLAYING GUITARS...VERY THRASH....
